History of the Newspaper/site anexartitos.gr
When we were asked to describe in 400 words the history of the "Independent" and the publisher, the contribution of the newspaper to the local community, the honorary distinctions and praises, the investments and other activities, only one thing provoked. Cheerfulness.
Shall we say what in 400 words? Should we describe the ideal determined by the dreams, passion and ideology of the journalistic pen, or the sad reality that describes the incessant pursuit of state advertising (private advertising follows the market recession) for survival, which is perfectly exploited at the expense of the press of the region by the leadership of the Ministry and now the General Secretariat of the Press?
The beginning...
The history of "Independent" began in September 1997, when the management and editorial of the newspaper decided to deal indirectly but clearly with the daily recording of the modern history of the prefecture of Serres, as well as the most important political and economic developments in the country.
The editor of the newspaper Stelios Rakitzis together with his friend from his student years at the Physics School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and his distinguished collaborator, Christos Plakias and mentored by the veteran lawyer and journalist Yiannis Saltavareas, started setting up the newspaper (first the weekly issue (Serraiki Week) and then daily (Independent)), with 16 pages, overturning the publishing standard of the prefecture of Serres, where in size the other older newspapers came out with only 8 pages, leading all to the increase of pages.
An impressive start, in a prefecture where newspaper readership was in an inversely proportional position to that in prefectures of "old" Greece, as the adjectives "old" and "new" were "determined" by the liberation wars of 1912-1913.
In 1999 we create the electronic edition of www.anexartitos.gr newspaper, taking another pioneering step in new forms of communication and dissemination of information.
After so many years, the newspaper "Independent" has written its own short story with the pen of journalistic passion and opposition to tolerance as a way of thinking and living.
Above all, he was critical of every authority and every sectarian group.

In 2010, the adverse economic climate also affected the print edition of our newspaper, which we were forced to suspend publishing. We continue now only on the internet and in printed form we continue the weekly publication "Serraiki Week" (every Friday with 20 pages on newsstands and subscribers), with publisher – director Christos Plakias and Stelios Rakitzis, editorial consultant.
Readability
A wonderful term that alludes to editorial narcissism, and even worse, verbalization, is "readability." A brilliant, brilliant field of transactions, it was formed in the search for readability through telephone and other surveys, which are well paid for by print unions in companies that deliver to publishers popular courses in statistics and applied mathematics.
The "Independent" is read by the citizens of Serres, regardless of politics, regardless of age, regardless of profession, regardless of polling companies and readership polls.
Besides, it does not allocate funds for such.
Discrimination
Without underestimating any of our fellow newspapers, we believe in discrimination what the old people thought about robes. That's not what makes the priest and honors make the newspaper. We refused honour offers.
We are honored by the friendship of ordinary citizens of Serres and this is the most striking distinction.
Much more glaring than one that would be offered to us, for example, by any press minister or through him.
The fact that, as a newspaper, we prevented the encroachment of municipal lands by contractors, the fact that we aroused consciences for the rescue of the "Kronio" cinema, the exposure of adventurous actions to lead institutionalized bodies, the reference in our publications during questions from Serres MPs and many others are titles of honor for us.
This is the newspaper "Independent"... Now only online everyday.
