8. Disclosure of Revenue Sources and Data Collection

The aim of disclosure is to be able to assess potential conflicts of interests. Media Outlets are encouraged to exceed the financial disclosure requirements mandated by their national laws in order to achieve this goal. In cases where the requirements cannot be met, a justification for non-compliance should be published.

8.1. Sources of Revenue

The Media Outlet shall disclose a list of its sources of revenue, ranked from largest to smallest. These may include subscriptions, advertising, major donors and donations, subsidies, fees, sales, memberships, sponsorships, events, etc. Organisations obliged to publish or make public their financial information shall provide a reference to the source where the data is accessible. The Media Outlet may disclose its revenue and/or the categories of its sources of revenue, including the respective ratios. A Media Outlet owned by the state or the government, or financed with public money, shall disclose the nature of its source(s) of revenue: license fees, government budget, partnerships, public subscriptions, grants, commercial advertising, or other. Where a media entity deems itself precluded from disclosure of information due to safety and security concerns as outlined in the Terms and Definitions section, these shall be explained.

8.2. Data collection disclosure

Where a Media Outlet processes personal data from its audiences, on its own or by engaging with third parties, that shall be disclosed. The Media Outlet shall describe what personal data is processed, by which methods and for what purpose.

Does your Media Outlet process any personal information from online visitors on its own or with third parties?

What information is processed?

The information processed varies depending on whether the online visitor (data subject) only visits our website or also uses some of our services (i.e. is our customer or user of our services).

If the data subject is the customer/user of our services, we process the information necessary for the conclusion of the contract and provision of our services and information provided by the data subject in connection with the use of our services. The scope of processed information depends in particular on the ordered service and may include (i) e-mail, (ii) name and surname or nickname, (iii) contact address, (iv) telephone number, (v) invoicing and payment data and (vi) data voluntarily provided by the data subject within the course of communication with us.

If the data subject is only visitor of our website, the following data may be processed: (i) IP address and (ii) data obtained through cookies (or other online identifiers), such as information about the user device (browser type and its settings, device operating system), geolocation data, information about visitor’s interests, visited websites, used mobile applications etc.

With the exception of so-called technical cookies, which are necessary for the operation of our website or the provision of the requested service, we use cookies only with the visitor’s consent.

What is the purpose for gathering that information?

The personal information of customers/users of our services may be processed for the following purposes:

(a) the legal basis being performance of the contract or to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract (Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR):
- provision of the ordered services;
- administration of the user’s account related to our services;
- saving the user’s personal settings within the service;

(b) the legal basis being compliance with a legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c) of the GDPR):
- keeping accounting records and fulfilment of other legal obligations;

(c) the legal basis being our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR):
- improving the quality of our services and development of new services;
- ensuring the security of our IT systems and networks against external attacks or misuse by users;
- newsletters regarding the ordered or similar products and services;
- answering the user’s questions sent via a contact form or by phone;
- protecting our legitimate interests (e.g. in the event of a lawsuit related to the provided services);
- debt collection;

(d) the legal basis being the user’s consent (Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR):
- sending newsletters regarding other than ordered or similar products and services;
- sending a newsletter of a third party.

The personal information of visitors of our website may be processed for the following purposes:

(a) the legal basis being our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR):
- transmission of communication over an electronic communication network;
- provision of the service expressly requested by the visitor;

(b) the legal basis being the visitor’s consent (Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR):
- permanent remembering of login details and visitor’s preferences;
- selection and display of advertisements based on the visitor’s interests (including remarketing and behavioural advertisement);
- personalization of the website content;
- performing analyses and measurements to determine how our services are used.
